Recently my dad and I started the website www.mysportposters.com, a site for custom sport posters for high school and middle school athletes. He had
a lot of luck designing them for the various team’s I was on while in high school, and we figured it could expand. However, after designing a decent site and investing a good amount of money into MySportPosters, we had no luck. That was until we used the ‘Use more brains than money’ motto. We began experimenting with facebook and twitter as free advertising mediums. The results for our small poster business were amazing. We realized that by marketing the custom posters to a small group of people we got much better results. We used facebook to make a fan page and asked high school athletes to post the custom posters we made for them on their facebook page. We used facebook’s advertising medium to target customers around us and at the time of major events(regionals, conference, state). With marketing and the internet it is not about how many people you can reach, but how direct you can be.
